Company Nurse is comprised of a group of dedicated professionals with deep experience and expertise in the fields of workers’ compensation insurance claims and injury management, medical protocols, IT, sales, and business and client management.
Founder and President
Paul Binsfeld is the founder and president of Company Nurse, LLC, a firm established in 1997 that specializes in medical triage and injury management for workers’ compensation. Binsfeld has over 25 years of experience in this sector, and his early work at the industry’s genesis led him to become an influential leader in the workers’ compensation market. Company Nurse has high profile clients in all 50 states ranging from municipalities – including state governments, cities, counties and school districts – to national restaurant chains, defense contractors, healthcare providers and transportation firms.
In 2008, Company Nurse was named on the prestigious list of Arizona Companies to Watch. In 2012, Binsfeld was honored with the Hall of Fame Innovator Award from Business School Lausanne in Switzerland for creating a niche segment in the workers’ compensation industry where one did not exist before. In 2016, Binsfeld was appointed to the Entrepreneurial Insurance Alliance Advisory Board of Directors. That same year, he formally launched the first-to-market SaaS solution for worker’s compensation nurse triage management, called Enspiri Solutions, LLC.
Binsfeld has also been recognized as an authority in the industry and participates in speaking engagements like the Entrepreneurial Insurance Symposium, and the Professional Liability insurance Series’ ExecuSummit.
Passionate about fostering entrepreneurialism in youth, Binsfeld has served on the Board of Advisors for AIESEC, a global organization that has 60 years of experience in developing high-potential youth into globally minded responsible leaders.
Binsfeld received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Arizona State University and his MBA degree from Business School Lausanne in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Vice President of Business Development
Debra Spamer is vice president of business development, adding to the organization more than 25 years of management experience as well as expertise in the areas of sales development and management, marketing, contract negotiations and customer relations.
Spamer joined the company in the spring of 2014 and previously served in vice president roles for GreaterGood.com, Incentive Logic, LiveWorld and Family Education Network.
In addition, she was the executive director of brand marketing and corporate alliances for International Cruise and Excursions. Earlier in her career – in another arena – she was the manager of new media sales at the Chicago Sun-Times.
In her position at Company Nurse, Spamer is responsible for revenue and business enhancement activities including strategic partner development, as well as expansion and continuous improvement planning for major client relationships utilizing the brand’s nurse triage services. Spamer received her B.S. in advertising from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Vice President of Sales
Steve Kelly, in his position of vice president of sales, works with clients and alliance partners to improve results for workers’ compensation programs through reduced costs, improved reporting, and providing the best medical care for injured workers.
Kelly joined Company Nurse in 2010, bringing with him more than a decade of experience working in a variety of sales and management roles in the telecommunications industry. Previously, Kelly owned a successful printing and promotional marketing business, as well as served as an executive coach to small business owners offering corporate direction and strategic planning. He holds a business degree in Finance from Northern Arizona University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
Deanna Smith, CPA, MIM
Director of Finance
Deanna R. Smith, c.p.a., m.i.m. is the director of finance for Company Nurse, LLC and has been an integral part of the company for over a decade.
In her role, Deanna provides leadership for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives. She ensures credibility of the Finance group by providing timely and accurate financial statements and analysis of budgets, financial trends, and forecasts. Furthermore, Deanna manages processes for financial tax planning and capital cash management.
Prior to joining Company Nurse, Deanna graduated with Honors at the Thunderbird / American Graduate School of International Management where she earned her Masters in International Management. For her undergraduate, Deanna graduated Cum Laude from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; emphasis in Accounting. Upon graduation, Deanna has held positions as an Audit Manager with Eide Bailly, LLP, Staff Auditor for KPMG Peat Marwick, and Assistant Controller with Pacific Atlantic Systems Leasing. Deanna has been a member of the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants since 1991.
Judy Carney, CPA
Director, Accounting Services
Judy Carney, c.p.a. is director of accounting services for Company Nurse, LLC. She joined the company over five years ago, bringing nine years of public accounting (audit) experience and eight years of pharmacy benefits management experience.
Prior to Company Nurse, Carney was the director of a country-wide audit department for a pharmacy benefits manager, and was a manager of audit services for Arthur Andersen & Co in Kansas City and Phoenix.
In her position at Company Nurse, Carney oversees the day-to-day accounting, which includes billing, payables, payroll, collections, cash management, benefits, vendor relations, and client relations. Carney graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Kansas State University.
Director, Client Management Services
Combs and her team have the responsibility of enrolling new clients, maintaining those client setups, and managing program outcomes to allow Company Nurse clients to attain the best possible benefits from injury reporting and triage.
Combs has a Bachelor’s degree in Global Business/Marketing and a Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University.
Injury Hotline Manager
In his position at Company Nurse, Clinch implements and reviews policies and operating structure of the call center. He sets standards and guidelines for interaction with customers, and monitors calls to ensure that the expectations of the customers are met based on overall operational KPIs. He has exceptional knowledge of call center management and project management.
Clinch graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts in History, and Minor in Political Science. He then earned his Master of Arts in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.
Director of Information Technology
John Malone is the director of information technology (IT) at Company Nurse. He brought 25 years of IT expertise to the team when he joined in 2011.
Prior to Company Nurse, Malone’s career experience included IT/IS management at Ditron Manufacturing, ownership of TechniSolve Pty. Ltd. and software engineering at IRIS Technology Pty. Ltd., Trans World Radio, Gang-Nail Australia Ltd. and Instruments & Controls Inc. (ICI).
As IT/IS manager at Ditron Manufacturing for over five years, Malone provided oversight for all IT/IS services and systems integration. Under Malone’s supervision, successful development and implementation of new technologies led to acquiring and retaining significant new customer accounts.
Malone received his B.S. in Computer Science at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
Dr. Charles Pollack
Dr. Charles Pollack is chief medical officer. He has 31 years of experience in the medical field, serving in this role since the inception of Company Nurse. As chief medical officer, Dr. Pollack oversees medical protocols and quality control measures.
Dr. Pollack has served in both civilian and military medical settings. He has held positions such as Emergency Department Chairman of Pennsylvania Hospital, Research Director at Maricopa Medical Center and 4th Marine Regiment Regimental Surgeon, while deployed overseas in Okinawa, Japan.
In addition to the more than 350 original research articles, chapters and abstracts that he has written, Dr. Pollack serves on the editorial boards of several peer-reviewed journals and on the steering committees of multiple national and international trials. He is the only physician to have received the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP)’s highest national award in both teaching and research. He is a founding board member of the Hospital Quality Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 2009 dedicated to improvement in the quality of care provided in hospitals.
Dr. Pollack received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and History and his Master’s Degree in History of Science and Medicine from Emory University. He received his M.D. at Tulane University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Mississippi.
